Behind the Veil by Kathryn Nolan

Behind the Veil is a steamy romance about two private detectives tasked with tracking down highly coveted, stolen books. While wading through a world of veils and deceit, our couple discovers their undercover relationship may be more real than pretend.
I felt like the story had a little bit of a slow start, but at about 20% in I couldn’t put it down. Kathryn Nolan did an absolutely amazing job crafting this story. I could easily tell she spent a vast amount of time researching and designing Behind the Veil. I appreciate Nolan’s dedication to creating a story with a deeper plot, really spending time on developing multiple elements that come together to create a complete story. Nolan is a fantastic author, and I was so pleased with the attention she gave her writing.
Our main characters, Delilah and Henry, are brought to life with Nolan’s vivid details and thorough story telling. Both characters had an interesting back story that led them to the world of book hunting while leaving so much room for self-development and character building. If you’ve read my reviews before, you know character development is very important to me. By the end of the story, I felt like I knew our main characters intimately. I loved Delilah's confidence and bad-ass persona, and she is totally balanced by Henry's gentle nature and amazing intelligence. They were so fun together!
Creating an action-packed, interesting love story with enough depth to keep the reader both entertained and in love, isn’t an easy feat, but Nolan accomplished it astoundingly. I am looking forward to reading more about the Codex team with Freya’s story coming in 2020!

Relatively Sane By Whitney Dineen

Relatively Sane By Whitney Dineen This is the second book in the relatively series by Whitney Dineen. I read it right behind the first book with little lag time between the two. If you do as I did, be prepared for a lot of re-cap. I give this book 3.5 stars rounding to a 4. Our main girl Cat is back in this romcom about the Masterson clan. She is home and looking to start a new life for herself in familiar territory. She has rekindled (kinda, you will see) her relationship with Sam and is excited about being home and with her family. Now she just needs to figure out how she's going to go from a party planner in the big apple to a career in her small hometown.  I was intending on giving this book a 3, but the ending was really good. I felt like the entire first half of the book could have been a couple chapters because it practically went over the majority of what happened in the first book. This allows for people to hop right in to the second book without having to read Relat...

Bootleg Springs Series By Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley

Y’ALL! I devoured this six book series, Bootleg Springs . I have so much I want to say about it, but I will try not to drop any big spoilers! Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley did a great job collaborating on this series. Although I believe I can tell the difference in who was the main writer in each book, the series was so well woven and consistent. I gave each of the books 5 stars on Goodreads !             The books are set in a small West Virginia town, Bootleg Springs, famous for its hard-hitting moonshine. I fell in love with the town as well as the quirky characters that gave the town its uniqueness. Our main characters are the Bodine family and their close friends. Each book follows a different set of characters, found on the beautiful covers, and the series needs to be read in order! There is an overarching storyline involving the disappearance of a teenage girl 13 years earlier, and that’s all I can say about ...

Red Rising By Pierce Brown

I am so impressed with this story,  Red Rising by Pierce Brown. It has sat in my “to-read list” for a really long time. Honestly, I’m a little thankful I waited because the anticipation waiting for the next book would have killed me with this series! I gave this book a 5/5 rating. I honestly loved it. I read the first six chapters before I went to bed, and the next day at work all I could think about was the story and how I had to know what happened. To say the least my heart was so shattered (maybe because I have a soft spot for miners…who knows!?) during that initial section. Brown did such a great job capturing the identity of his characters and making you love and need more from them. In a world separated by the color of someone’s hair, eyes, and sigils, Darrow, the lowest of the low a red, slaves in the bottoms of the mines of mars. When his life is shattered and torn upside down he, our favorite helldiver, goes through hell to face the golds and make his wife’...
