Serpent & Dove By: Shelby Mahurin

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin may be my favorite read of 2019! After devouring the Discovery of Witches series at the beginning of the year and eagerly awaiting Queen Of Nothing all year, that is really saying something! However, it’s well deserved. This book literally has EVERYTHING I want in a story. Literally so well written and developed! I fell in love with Lou and Reid, their heart warming and hilarious relationship, and the world Mahurin creates!
Lou, a witch in hiding, has a complicated past and when she is forced to marry her enemy, the witch hunter Reid, it could mean the end of her. When her past comes back to haunt her, truths are exposed, and hearts are torn. The most daunting question is will Reid follow his heart or his head.
So, about the book! It’s a classic enemy to lovers romance set in an exciting fantasy world of witches and witch hunters. One review I read complained that it was 500+ pages long.... excuse me but, hello?!? This story needs that exciting length!! This book feels more NA than YA to me, and for those of you who care, there is a tasteful and exciting sex scene. So young readers (or those of you who don’t like that sort of thing) should be aware this book does have mature content.
I could go on and on about the content of this book, but I really don’t want to give anything away, and I wouldn’t be able to resist! I devoured this book, and I’m anxiously awaiting Honey & Blood.

The Lucky Dress By: Aimee Brown

Emi Harrison, our main girl, is freshly back on the market after her ex-fiancĂ©e, Jack, decided to be a sleaze. She is moving on by creating a new life for herself and pushing her broken heart past her worst moment ever. It’s been a year since the big scandal went down, and she is being forced to see Jack again at her brother’s wedding. Throw in an archenemy and what could go wrong, right?! The Lucky Dress   was so fun! A true definition of a RomCom!  When reading a novel, writing skill is very important to me. Overall, Brown did a fantastic job writing this story. I did notice some wording that was off once or twice while reading it (honestly could just be style differences), but it wasn’t enough to affect my opinion of the novel. I really loved how Brown moved forward as well as backward with this book. The flashback scenes allowed me to get to know the characters better as well as understand their emotions. When I started this novel, I had no idea where it was g...

Relatively Sane By Whitney Dineen

Relatively Sane By Whitney Dineen This is the second book in the relatively series by Whitney Dineen. I read it right behind the first book with little lag time between the two. If you do as I did, be prepared for a lot of re-cap. I give this book 3.5 stars rounding to a 4. Our main girl Cat is back in this romcom about the Masterson clan. She is home and looking to start a new life for herself in familiar territory. She has rekindled (kinda, you will see) her relationship with Sam and is excited about being home and with her family. Now she just needs to figure out how she's going to go from a party planner in the big apple to a career in her small hometown.  I was intending on giving this book a 3, but the ending was really good. I felt like the entire first half of the book could have been a couple chapters because it practically went over the majority of what happened in the first book. This allows for people to hop right in to the second book without having to read Relat...

Sorcery of Thorns By Margaret Rogerson

Sorcery of Thorns By Margaret Rogerson did not disappoint! I give this book a full 5 stars, and I am so thrilled I finally picked it up! This book sat on my TBR shelf for about four months. Y’all, that was five months too long! This standalone fantasy novel is uniquely thrilling, humorous, and inspiring.   It’s a must read for all lovers of fantasy!  Elisabeth was raised in the bowels of the library vowing to protect others from the evil of magic. Nathaniel is a sorcerer and the vilest kind, or at least his cold eyes say as much. When Elisabeth has to depend on the person she has grown up despising, she learns more about herself than she ever thought possible. Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and dear, sweet Silas teach us that the world is not always what we are taught and that people do not have to become what they are labeled.     This is Rogerson’s sophomore novel, but the first story I have read by her. This world was created with such care and detail ...
